Beautiful Brass Lighting
This time around the trend for using brass in our homes and businesses isn’t the highly polished brass (all too often with the horribly thin and garish brass plating) that we’ve had in the past that’s popular. This time around it’s the softer aged, antiqued, hand burnished or sand blasted brasses that are extremely popular.
So, where does this trend come from? I think it’s mainly “industrial chic” where the quality and feel are as important as the look. It’s also got a lot of “marine style” influence – traditionally metal marine products were manufactured from brass as this patinated over time rather than corroded in the harsh damp and salty conditions. I think there is also a lot of influence from “steam punk” where the materials of Victorian and early Edwardian times are used.
